Valves and automation
A controller opens the valve of each block in turn, for as long as it needs, so the field is watered on schedule without anyone opening valves by hand.
- Controller
- Holds the programme: which block, at what time, and for how long.
- Solenoid valves
- An electric valve on each block, opened and closed by the controller.
- Control cable
- Runs from the controller to each valve, laid with the mainline.
- Blocks
- Parts of the field watered one at a time, so the pump always works at the flow it was chosen for.
- Sensors
- A rain sensor can hold back a programme when the rain has already done the work.
- Farms with many blocks
- Crops fed through the water
- Farms where labour is short
What the design looks at
- The number and size of the blocks.
- Watering times for each stage of the crop.
- Cable runs from the controller to each valve.
- Where the controller goes, and its power supply.
We design the system, supply the equipment and install it, then start it up, check it and train the people who will run it.
Equipment we design with and supply: Rain Bird. Trademarks belong to their owners; no partnership is implied.
Drip irrigation
For row crops, orchards and plantations, with the water and the nutrients delivered at the roots.
Sprinklers and rain guns
For field crops and pasture, where the whole surface needs water.
Centre pivot
For large, regular fields, with sprinklers and a control panel matched to the crop.
Pumping
From a borehole, a river or a reservoir, sized to the water the source can give, solar where it suits.
Filtration and fertigation
Filters that protect the emitters, and dosing that feeds the crop through the water.
