Irrigation traveler

A reel machine, anchored at one end of the run, winds in its hose and pulls a gun cart down the field, the gun throwing water over the crop as it travels.

01 / How it works
Reel on its trailerHose paid out along the rowGun cart travels inGun throws over the crop
A reel machine on its trailer at the start of the run, its hose paid out to a gun cart that travels in, throwing water over the crop as it goes.
Reel and trailer
Winds the hose in at a set speed, towed between fields since it needs no buried pipework.
Hose
Carries the water out to the gun cart and is wound back in as the cart travels.
Gun cart
Carries the sprinkler across the field as the hose is wound in, its wheels set to the row spacing.
Gun
A single large sprinkler throwing a wide circle, sized to the pressure the pump supplies.
Anchor
Holds the machine in place at the start of the run, against the pull of the hose.
Pump
Supplies the flow and pressure the gun and the travel speed need.
02 / Where it suits
  • Large or irregular fields
  • Fields without buried pipework
  • Pasture and fodder
  • Farms that move one machine between fields

What the design looks at

  • The length and shape of the run the machine will cover.
  • The flow and pressure the pump can supply to the gun.
  • The travel speed, which sets how much water each pass applies.
  • Wind, which affects a gun sprinkler's throw more than a low sprinkler.
  • How the machine is moved and anchored between runs.
03 / What we do

We design the system, supply the equipment and install it, then start it up, check it and train the people who will run it.

Equipment we design with and supply: Bauer. Trademarks belong to their owners; no partnership is implied.
